Limit App Diagnostic Permissions in Windows 11

Windows 11 allows certain applications to access diagnostic information about other running programs to troubleshoot issues and monitor performance. However, sharing this data can raise privacy concerns. This guide explains how to configure Windows 11 privacy settings to restrict or completely turn off app diagnostic permissions across your system or for individual applications.

How to Turn Off App Diagnostic Permissions

You can manage app diagnostic permissions directly through the Windows Settings app. Follow these steps to adjust your configuration:

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows Key + I or by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Settings.
  2. In the left sidebar, click on Privacy & security.
  3. Scroll down to the App permissions section.
  4. Click on App diagnostics.
  5. To stop all applications from accessing diagnostic data, toggle the switch next to Let apps access diagnostic info about other apps to Off.
  6. If you prefer to allow access only to specific programs, leave the master switch On and use the individual toggle switches in the list below to enable or disable permissions per app.

To further enhance your system privacy, you can also limit the diagnostic information Windows itself collects and sends to Microsoft.

Limit Diagnostic Data Collection

  1. Navigate to Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback.
  2. Expand the Diagnostic data section.
  3. Select Send required diagnostic data instead of “Send optional diagnostic data” to minimize the amount of device and usage data transmitted.

Delete Collected Diagnostic Data

  1. In the same Diagnostics & feedback menu, scroll down to Delete diagnostic data.
  2. Click the Delete button to remove diagnostic data that Microsoft has previously gathered from your device.
