How to Use Quick Assist in Windows 11
Quick Assist is a built-in remote assistance tool in Windows 11 that allows users to securely share their screen or grant remote control access to a trusted support technician over the internet. This guide provides a straightforward overview of how to launch the application, establish a secure connection using a single-use security code, manage permissions during the session, and safely end the connection.
Prerequisites for Using Quick Assist
Before starting, ensure both the person receiving help and the person providing help meet the following requirements: * A working internet connection on both Windows 11 devices. * The person providing assistance must have an active Microsoft Account. * The person receiving assistance does not need a Microsoft Account to share their screen.
How to Share Your Screen (Get Help)
If you need technical support and want to share your screen with someone else, follow these steps:
- Open Quick Assist: Press Windows Key + Ctrl + Q on your keyboard, or search for “Quick Assist” in the Windows 11 Start menu and press Enter.
- Enter the Security Code: In the “Get help” section, enter the 6-digit security code provided by your support technician or helper.
- Submit the Code: Click Submit.
- Grant Screen Sharing Permission: A prompt will appear stating that the helper wants to view or control your screen. Verify the name of the helper, then click Allow.
Once connected, a small toolbar will appear at the top of your screen showing the active session status.
How to Provide Help (For Technicians and Helpers)
If you are the person providing technical assistance to another device:
- Open Quick Assist on your Windows 11 device.
- Under the “Help someone” section, click the Help someone button.
- Sign in using your Microsoft Account credentials if prompted.
- Quick Assist will generate a unique 6-digit security code with an expiration timer (typically 10 minutes).
- Share this code with the person who needs help via phone, chat, or email.
- Choose between Full Control or View Only, then wait for the recipient to click Allow.
Security Controls During a Session
Quick Assist includes several security features to protect your privacy during a remote session:
- Pause Screen Sharing: Click the Pause button on the Quick Assist toolbar at any time to temporarily freeze your screen from the helper’s view.
- Control Permissions: You can allow the helper to take full control of your mouse and keyboard, or restrict them to viewing mode only.
- Terminate Connection: You can instantly end the remote session at any moment by clicking the Leave or Close (X) button on the toolbar.
- Single-Use Codes: Security codes expire after a short time and cannot be reused, preventing unauthorized access after the session ends.
