Switching from a Microsoft account to a local offline account in Windows 11 is a straightforward process that helps improve privacy and eliminates the requirement for an active internet connection to log in. This guide walks you through the exact steps needed to disconnect your online Microsoft account and safely transition your current user profile to an offline local account without losing your personal files and applications.

Steps to Switch to a Local Account

  1. Open Windows Settings Press Windows Key + I on your keyboard, or click the Start menu and select the Settings gear icon.

  2. Navigate to Account Settings In the left sidebar, click on Accounts. On the right pane, select Your info.

  3. Choose the Local Account Option Scroll down to the Account settings section and click on the link that says Sign in with a local account instead.

  4. Confirm the Switch A prompt will appear asking if you are sure you want to switch. Review the information regarding features you might lose (such as OneDrive settings synchronization) and click Next.

  5. Verify Your Identity Enter your current Microsoft account PIN or password to verify your identity.
