How to Mirror or Extend Display Wirelessly in Windows 11

Windows 11 allows you to wirelessly stream your screen to external monitors, smart TVs, or projectors using built-in Miracast technology. Whether you want to duplicate your screen for a presentation or extend your desktop space for multitasking, you can configure these settings in just a few clicks without third-party software.

Prerequisites Before Connecting

Step 1: Open the Cast Menu

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + K to directly open the Cast menu.
  2. Alternatively, press Windows Key + A to open the Quick Settings panel and click the Cast tile.

Step 2: Connect to the Wireless Display

  1. Windows will scan for nearby compatible devices.
  2. Select your wireless display or TV from the list.
  3. If prompted on the receiving display, accept the connection request or enter the PIN shown on the screen.
  4. Check the box labeled “Allow mouse, keyboard, touch, and pen input from this device” if you want to control your PC from the secondary screen.

Step 3: Choose Between Mirroring or Extending

Once connected, you can choose how your desktop behaves:

  1. Press Windows Key + P to open the Project menu.
  2. Select your preferred display mode:
    • Duplicate (Mirror): Shows the exact same screen and content on both your PC and the external display.
    • Extend: Treats the wireless display as an extra screen, allowing you to drag windows and apps across both displays.
    • Second screen only: Turns off your PC display and outputs everything onto the wireless screen.

Step 4: Adjust Display Order and Settings (For Extended Mode)

If you selected the Extend option, align your screens properly for natural mouse movement:

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows Key + I.
  2. Navigate to System > Display.
  3. Drag and drop the screen icons (labeled 1 and 2) to match their physical positions on your desk.
  4. Click Apply to save your layout.
  5. Scroll down to adjust resolution, scaling, and orientation if necessary.

How to Disconnect

  1. Press Windows Key + K.
  2. Click the Disconnect button next to the connected device name.
