How to Limit Battery Charge on Windows 11

Setting a battery charge threshold caps your laptop’s maximum charge level—usually at 80%—to significantly extend the overall lifespan of lithium-ion batteries. While Windows 11 does not feature a single, universal switch to limit charging, you can easily enable this threshold using OEM manufacturer software, BIOS/UEFI settings, or the Windows 11 Smart Charging feature supported by select hardware.

Method 1: Use OEM Manufacturer Software

Most laptop brands provide proprietary control software preinstalled on Windows 11 to manage battery thresholds.

• Lenovo: Open the Lenovo Vantage or Lenovo Commercial Vantage app. Navigate to Device > Power, locate Battery Charge Threshold or Conservation Mode, and toggle it on to cap the charge at 75–80%.
• ASUS: Open the MyASUS app. Go to Customization (or Hardware Settings) > Power & Performance. Under Battery Health Charging, select Balanced Mode (80% limit) or Maximum Lifespan Mode (60% limit).
• Dell: Open Dell Optimizer or Dell Power Manager. Go to the Battery section, click the settings icon, and select Primarily AC Use or choose Custom to define your desired start and stop charging percentages.
