How to Enable Mono Audio in Windows 11

This guide explains how to enable mono audio in Windows 11 to improve listening accessibility. By default, Windows outputs stereo sound, which separates audio into distinct left and right channels. Turning on mono audio combines both channels into a single stream, ensuring that all audio content is audible through either speaker or earbud, which is particularly beneficial for users with hearing loss in one ear or those using a single headphone.

Method 1: Enable Mono Audio via Accessibility Settings

  1. Open the Start Menu and click on Settings (or press Windows Key + I).
  2. In the left sidebar, select Accessibility.
  3. Under the Hearing section in the right pane, click on Audio.
  4. Locate the Mono audio option.
  5. Toggle the switch next to Mono audio to the On position.

Method 2: Enable Mono Audio via System Sound Settings

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows Key + I.
  2. Select System from the left sidebar.
  3. Click on Sound on the right side of the window.
  4. Scroll down to the Output section.
  5. Locate Mono audio (labeled as “Combine left and right audio channels into one”).
  6. Toggle the switch to On.

Once enabled, Windows 11 will immediately begin routing all audio playback as a combined mono signal across all connected output devices. You can revert this change at any time by toggling the same switch back to Off.
