How to Configure Dynamic Lock in Windows 11

Dynamic Lock is a built-in Windows 11 security feature that uses Bluetooth signal strength to detect when you step away from your PC with your smartphone, automatically locking your computer to prevent unauthorized access. This guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions on how to pair your smartphone via Bluetooth and enable Dynamic Lock in Windows 11 settings.

Step 1: Pair Your Smartphone to Windows 11

Before Dynamic Lock can function, your smartphone (iOS or Android) must be paired to your Windows 11 PC using Bluetooth.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone and ensure the device is discoverable.
  2. On your Windows 11 PC, open the Settings app by pressing Windows Key + I.
  3. Select Bluetooth & devices from the left-hand navigation menu.
  4. Toggle the Bluetooth switch to On.
  5. Click Add device, then choose Bluetooth.
  6. Select your smartphone from the list of available devices.
  7. Confirm that the pairing PIN displayed matches on both your PC and your phone, then accept the prompt on both devices.

Step 2: Enable Dynamic Lock

Once your smartphone is successfully paired, activate the Dynamic Lock setting.

How Dynamic Lock Operates

Dynamic Lock monitors the Bluetooth Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) between your PC and your smartphone. When you walk out of Bluetooth range (typically around 30 feet or 10 meters), Windows will wait approximately 30 seconds before automatically locking the screen and turning off the display.

To ensure optimal performance, keep Bluetooth enabled on both devices at all times. Note that Dynamic Lock only locks your PC; it will not automatically unlock your computer when you return, requiring you to enter your PIN, password, or biometric credentials to sign back in.
