How to Adjust Webcam Settings in Windows 11
Windows 11 includes native camera management tools that allow you to adjust your webcam’s brightness, contrast, and framing directly from the system settings. This built-in utility lets you optimize your video quality for meetings, streaming, and recording without requiring third-party software or proprietary webcam drivers.
Accessing Camera Settings
- Open the Settings app by pressing Windows Key + I.
- In the left sidebar, click on Bluetooth & devices.
- Scroll down the right pane and select Cameras.
- Under the Connected cameras list, click on the webcam you wish to configure.
Adjusting Brightness and Contrast
Once you select your camera, a live preview window will appear along with several image adjustment sliders:
- Brightness: Drag the slider to the right to brighten the image if you are in a dimly lit environment, or drag it to the left if the scene is overexposed.
- Contrast: Use the contrast slider to adjust the difference between the light and dark areas of your video feed to add depth and clarity.
- Additional Adjustments: Depending on your webcam hardware, you may also see sliders for Saturation and Sharpness.
Changes made to these sliders update the live video preview immediately.
Adjusting Camera Framing and Zoom
If your webcam supports digital pan, tilt, zoom, or advanced AI features, you can configure framing options directly below the basic image controls:
- Rotation and Orientation: Use the Video rotation dropdown to rotate the camera feed by 90, 180, or 270 degrees if your camera is mounted upside down or vertically.
- Pan, Tilt, and Zoom: If your webcam supports digital zoom, expand the options to adjust the magnification and position the frame on your face.
- Windows Studio Effects (Automatic Framing): On devices equipped with a supported Neural Processing Unit (NPU) or compatible camera hardware, toggle on Automatic Framing. This feature automatically crops and tracks your movement to keep you centered in the frame.
Resetting Default Settings
If your adjustments result in unnatural lighting or color distortion, scroll down to the bottom of the camera settings page and click the Reset settings button. This will restore the brightness, contrast, and framing values back to the manufacturer’s default configuration.
