Connecting automatically to open public Wi-Fi hotspots exposes your device to serious security and privacy risks, including data interception and malware. Method 1: Disable Auto-Connect for Known Public Networks

If your computer has previously connected to an open network, Windows 11 will attempt to reconnect whenever that network is within range. You can disable this behavior directly in Settings.

1. Open the Settings app by pressing Windows Key + I.
