Configure Four-Finger Tap for Windows 11 Notifications

Customizing touchpad gestures in Windows 11 can significantly improve your workflow and navigation speed. If your laptop is equipped with a precision touchpad, you can remap advanced multi-finger gestures to perform specific system actions. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to set a four-finger tap gesture to toggle the Notification Center on Windows 11.

Prerequisites

To customize four-finger gestures, your Windows 11 laptop must have a Precision Touchpad. Most modern laptops include this feature by default. If the gesture settings described below are missing from your system, your device likely uses a standard touchpad or manufacturer-specific drivers that do not support native Windows advanced gestures.

Steps to Configure Four-Finger Tap

  1. Open Windows Settings: Press the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + I to launch the Settings app, or click the Start button and select Settings.

  2. Navigate to Touchpad Settings: In the left sidebar, click on Bluetooth & devices. On the right pane, scroll down and click on Touchpad.

  3. Expand Four-Finger Gestures: Scroll through the Touchpad menu until you find the Gestures & interaction section. Click on Four-finger gestures to expand its options.

  4. Change the Tap Action: Locate the Taps dropdown menu. Click the dropdown list and select Notification center.

Using the Gesture

Once selected, the changes take effect immediately without needing to restart your computer. Place four fingers flat on your touchpad and tap simultaneously. The Notification Center and calendar flyout will open from the right side of the screen. Tapping the touchpad with four fingers again will dismiss the panel.
