Check GPU Temp and VRAM in Windows 11 Task Manager

Monitoring your graphics card’s performance and thermal status is essential for maintaining optimal PC gaming and workflow performance. Windows 11 includes native monitoring tools inside the Task Manager that allow you to check your GPU temperature and dedicated video RAM (VRAM) utilization in real time without requiring third-party software. This guide covers how to quickly locate and read both metrics.

Step 1: Open the Task Manager

You can open the Task Manager in Windows 11 using any of the following methods: * Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard. * Right-click the Start menu button and select Task Manager. * Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and choose Task Manager.

Step 2: Navigate to the Performance Tab

1. If Task Manager opens in compact mode, click More details at the bottom of the window.
2. In the left navigation sidebar, click the Performance icon (represented by a pulse/graph icon).

Step 3: Select Your Graphics Card

1. Scroll down the list of hardware components in the Performance pane.
2. Click on GPU (labeled as GPU 0, GPU 1, or the specific model name such as NVIDIA GeForce, AMD Radeon, or Intel Arc). If you have both an integrated and dedicated GPU, select the dedicated GPU for gaming and heavy workloads.

Step 4: Check GPU Temperature and VRAM Utilization

Once your GPU is selected, you can view the real-time data:

• GPU Temperature: Look at the bottom of the GPU summary pane under the performance graphs. You will see a metric labeled GPU Temperature displayed in degrees Celsius (°C). Note: GPU temperature tracking requires a dedicated GPU with updated drivers supporting WDDM 2.4 or higher.
• VRAM Utilization: Look for the section labeled Dedicated GPU memory. This displays your current VRAM usage alongside your total available VRAM (e.g., 4.2/8.0 GB).
• Shared Memory: Task Manager also displays Shared GPU memory, which represents system RAM allocated as an overflow buffer for the graphics card if your dedicated VRAM fills up.
