Change Mouse Scroll Wheel Speed in Windows 11

Adjusting how many lines your mouse wheel jumps per scroll in Windows 11 allows you to customize your browsing and reading experience for better speed and control. You can configure this behavior directly through the modern Windows 11 Settings app or the classic Mouse Properties menu, choosing whether to scroll a specific number of lines or an entire screen at once.

Method 1: Using Windows 11 Settings

  1. Open the Start Menu and click on Settings (or press the keyboard shortcut Windows Key + I).
  2. In the left sidebar, select Bluetooth & devices.
  3. Scroll down the right pane and click on Mouse.
  4. Locate the Scrolling section.
  5. Under Roll the mouse wheel to scroll, ensure Multiple lines at a time is selected in the dropdown menu.
  6. Adjust the Lines to scroll at a time slider:
    • Drag the slider to the left to decrease the number of lines per scroll for slower, more precise scrolling.
    • Drag the slider to the right to increase the number of lines per scroll for faster movement.
  7. Alternatively, change the dropdown menu to One screen at a time if you prefer scrolling through entire pages at once.

The changes apply automatically, allowing you to test the new scrolling speed immediately.

Method 2: Using the Classic Mouse Properties Menu

  1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type main.cpl and press Enter to open the classic Mouse Properties window.
  3. Click on the Wheel tab at the top.
  4. Under the Vertical Scrolling section, select one of the following options:
    • The following number of lines at a time: Enter your desired number of lines into the text box or use the up/down arrows.
    • One screen at a time: Choose this to jump an entire screen view per scroll notch.
  5. Click Apply and then OK to save your preferences.
