What Information is in the Safari Privacy Report?

The Safari Privacy Report panel provides a transparent look into how Apple’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) protects your browsing history from cross-site trackers. This article breaks down the exact metrics, lists, and data points displayed in the panel, including thirty-day tracking statistics, a breakdown of the specific websites utilizing trackers, and the exact third-party domains attempting to profile you across the web.

Current Webpage Tracker Data

When you click the Privacy Report button (the shield icon) next to the address bar while browsing a specific website, a mini-panel appears. This quick view displays:

  • Total Trackers Blocked: The exact number of cross-site trackers Safari is currently blocking on that specific webpage.
  • Tracker Domains: A list of the specific third-party URLs (such as analytics or ad-tech companies) that attempted to load on the page you are viewing.

30-Day Summary Metrics

Opening the full Privacy Report panel—either from the Safari start page or by clicking the "i" icon in the mini-panel—reveals a comprehensive dashboard of your browsing activity over the last 30 days. The top of this panel displays four main statistics:

  • Trackers Prevented from Profiling You: The total number of unique cross-site trackers Safari has blocked from following you across different websites in the past month.
  • Websites That Contacted Trackers: The percentage of the websites you visited that contained at least one known tracker.
  • Most Contacted Tracker: The specific domain name of the single most aggressive tracker, along with the total number of websites you visited where this specific tracker was present.

Detailed Breakdown: Websites vs. Trackers

At the bottom of the full Privacy Report panel, the data is organized into two toggleable tabs that allow you to audit your browsing history in detail.

The Websites Tab

This view focuses on the destinations you have visited over the last 30 days.

  • List of Visited Sites: Displays every website you have visited that attempted to use a cross-site tracker. Websites with zero trackers are not listed here.
  • Tracker Count per Site: Shows a visual bar and a number indicating how many trackers were found on each individual website. By default, this list is sorted from the highest number of trackers to the lowest.
  • Individual Site Details: Clicking on any website in this list opens a pop-up showing the exact domain names of every tracker blocked on that specific site.

The Trackers Tab

This view flips the data to focus on the tracking companies themselves rather than the websites you visited.

  • List of Known Trackers: Displays the domain names of all the third-party trackers Safari has encountered and blocked during your 30-day browsing window.
  • Reach of Each Tracker: Shows the number of different websites you visited where that specific tracker was present. This is sorted by the most widespread trackers at the top.
  • Individual Tracker Details: Clicking on a specific tracker domain opens a pop-up revealing every website in your recent history that embeds and utilizes that specific tracker.

All information displayed in the Safari Privacy Report is processed locally on your device and is cleared automatically whenever you clear your Safari browsing history. Additionally, data from Private Browsing windows is never recorded or displayed in the Privacy Report.
