Moving Safari Sessions to Apple Vision Pro
Users can easily transition an active Safari browsing session from an iPhone or Mac directly to the Safari web browser on Apple Vision Pro. Because visionOS does not feature a traditional app Dock where standard Handoff icons usually appear, Apple’s Continuity features rely on iCloud Tabs, AirDrop, and Universal Clipboard to bridge the gap. This article outlines the system requirements and the three straightforward methods you can use to immediately pick up your web browsing session on your Apple Vision Pro.
System Requirements
Before transferring your browsing sessions between devices, ensure your iPhone, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro meet the following settings criteria:
- Apple ID: All devices must be signed in to the exact same Apple ID using two-factor authentication.
- Wireless Connections: Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth must be turned on across all devices.
- Handoff Setting: Handoff must be enabled to support
Continuity features.
- On Apple Vision Pro and iPhone: Go to Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff (or Handoff), then turn on Handoff.
- On Mac: Go to System Settings > General > AirDrop & Handoff, then turn on "Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices."
Method 1: Use iCloud Tabs (Seamless Sync)
iCloud Tabs is the most native way to hand off an active browsing session, as it automatically syncs your open web pages across devices in real time.
- Ensure Safari is turned on in your iCloud settings on all devices (Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Show All > Safari).
- Leave the webpage open in Safari on your iPhone or Mac.
- Put on your Apple Vision Pro and open the Safari app.
- Open a new tab to view the Safari Start Page.
- Scroll down to the iCloud Tabs section.
- Select your iPhone or Mac from the device list and tap the active webpage to open it immediately.
Method 2: Use AirDrop (Instant Push)
If you want to push an active webpage directly into your field of view on the Apple Vision Pro without navigating menus, AirDrop acts as an instant handoff tool.
- Open the desired webpage in Safari on your iPhone or Mac.
- Click or tap the Share button in the Safari toolbar.
- Select AirDrop from the share sheet.
- Choose your Apple Vision Pro from the list of nearby devices.
- On your Apple Vision Pro, accept the transfer. The webpage will automatically launch in a new Safari window.
Method 3: Use Universal Clipboard (Copy and Paste)
Because the Handoff setting powers Apple's Universal Clipboard, you can manually transfer a session in seconds by copying the web address on one device and pasting it on the other.
- In Safari on your iPhone or Mac, highlight and Copy the URL from the address bar.
- Within a few seconds, look at the Safari address bar on your Apple Vision Pro and tap it.
- Tap the Paste button that appears, then hit Go on the virtual keyboard to load the active session.
