How to Reopen a Closed Tab or Window in Safari on macOS

This article provides a quick guide on how to immediately restore accidentally closed tabs or windows in the Safari web browser on macOS. By using a simple built-in keyboard shortcut, Mac users can quickly recover their lost browsing sessions without searching through their browser history.

To reopen the most recently closed tab or window in Safari, press Shift + Command (⌘) + T on your keyboard.

When you press these three keys simultaneously, Safari will instantly restore the last tab you closed. If you accidentally closed an entire browser window containing multiple tabs, this same shortcut will bring the entire window and all of its tabs back to your screen. You can press the shortcut repeatedly to reopen older tabs and windows in the exact order they were closed.

Alternatively, you can use the standard macOS "Undo" shortcut by pressing Command (⌘) + Z. This method will reopen a closed tab, but it only works if closing that tab was the very last action you took in Safari. If you typed text or performed another action after closing the tab, Shift + Command (⌘) + T is the most reliable shortcut to use.

If you prefer not to use keyboard shortcuts, you can achieve the same result using your mouse or trackpad. Simply click on History in the top menu bar of your Mac and select Reopen Last Closed Tab or Reopen Last Closed Window from the dropdown menu.
