How to Reload Safari Pages Without Content Blockers
Content blockers are essential for a fast and private browsing experience, but they can occasionally break critical website functionality like video players, login prompts, or checkout pages. This article provides a quick, straightforward guide on how to temporarily bypass these blockers and reload a broken webpage in the Safari browser on both Mac and iOS devices without permanently disabling your extensions.
On a Mac
You can temporarily bypass content blockers on macOS directly from the Safari address bar or the application menu.
Method 1: Using the Address Bar
- Navigate to the webpage that is not loading properly.
- Move your cursor to the right side of the address bar to reveal the Reload button (the circular arrow icon).
- Click and hold the Reload button for a second.
- Click Reload Without Content Blockers from the menu that appears.
Method 2: Using the Menu Bar
- With the broken webpage open, click View in the top menu bar of your Mac.
- Press and hold the Option (Alt) key on your keyboard. Notice that the standard "Reload Page" option changes.
- Click Reload Without Content Blockers.
On an iPhone or iPad
Safari on iOS and iPadOS offers two quick ways to reload a site without your blockers active.
Method 1: Long-Pressing the Reload Button
- Open the broken webpage in Safari.
- Locate the address bar at the bottom or top of your screen.
- Tap and hold the Reload button (the circular arrow icon) located on the right side of the address bar.
- Tap Reload Without Content Blockers from the pop-up menu.
Method 2: Using the Website View Menu
- Tap the aA icon (or the puzzle piece icon) on the left side of the address bar.
- Tap Turn Off Content Blockers from the dropdown menu.
- The page will automatically reload with all content allowed.
How Temporary Reloading Works
When you use any of the methods above, Safari immediately refreshes the current webpage and allows all scripts, trackers, and advertisements to load normally for that single session. You do not need to manually turn your extensions back on. As soon as you close the tab, quit Safari, or navigate to a different website, your content blockers will automatically reactivate to protect your browsing.
