How to Pin or Remove Shared with You Links in Safari

This article provides a straightforward guide on managing the "Shared with You" section on your Safari Start Page. You will learn the exact steps required to either pin important web links so they remain easily accessible or remove unwanted links to keep your browser organized across your Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

To pin or remove a shared link using Safari on iOS or iPadOS, you use the touch-and-hold gesture to bring up the context menu.

  1. Open the Safari app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Open a new tab to view your Start Page.
  3. Scroll down to the Shared with You section. (If you Only see a few links, you can tap Show More to view the rest).
  4. Touch and hold (long-press) the thumbnail of the link you want to manage until a menu pops up.
  5. Tap Pin Link to lock the webpage to the front of the Shared with You section.
  6. Alternatively, tap Remove Link to delete it from your Start Page.

If you want to unpin a link later, simply touch and hold the pinned link and select Unpin Link.

Managing these links on macOS follows a very similar process, utilizing a secondary click on the Safari Start Page.

  1. Open the Safari browser on your Mac.
  2. Open a new window or tab to access the Start Page.
  3. Locate the Shared with You section.
  4. Control-click (or right-click) on the link you wish to modify.
  5. Select Pin Link from the dropdown menu to keep the link anchored in the section.
  6. Select Remove Link if you want to hide the link from your Start Page completely.

To unpin a link on your Mac, Control-click the pinned item and choose Unpin Link.

Because the "Shared with You" section pulls links directly from the Apple Messages app, you can also control how they appear in Safari directly from your text conversations.

  1. Open the Messages app on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad.
  2. Go to the conversation containing the link.
  3. Touch and hold (on iOS/iPadOS) or Control-click (on Mac) the web link inside the chat.
  4. Select Pin to make it a priority link in both Messages and the Safari Start Page.
  5. Select Delete or Hide Alerts (by clicking the contact's name at the top of the thread and toggling off "Show in Shared with You") to stop links from that specific conversation from appearing in Safari.
