How to Open All Bookmarks in a Folder at Once in Safari
This article provides a straightforward guide on how to simultaneously open all bookmarks stored within a single folder into new tabs in the Safari web browser. Whether you are using a Mac, iPhone, or iPad, Safari allows you to launch an entire collection of saved websites at once using simple keyboard shortcuts, right-click context menus, or touch gestures, saving you the time of clicking each link individually.
Using the Favorites Bar on a Mac
If your bookmark folder is located in the Favorites bar directly below the address bar, you have two fast options:
- The Keyboard Shortcut Method: Hold down the Command (⌘) key on your keyboard and click on the bookmark folder. Every bookmark inside will instantly open in its own tab.
- The Right-Click Method: Right-click (or Control-click) on the bookmark folder in the Favorites bar, then select Open in New Tabs from the dropdown menu.
Using the Bookmarks Menu on a Mac
If your folder is saved in your general bookmarks rather than the Favorites bar, you can access it from the top menu bar:
- Click Bookmarks in the top menu bar of your screen.
- Hover your cursor over the folder you want to open.
- Scroll to the very bottom of the list of bookmarks that appears and click Open in New Tabs.
- Alternatively, hold down the Command (⌘) key and click directly on the folder name in the menu.
Using the Bookmarks Sidebar on a Mac
You can also open all bookmarks from the Safari sidebar:
- Click the Sidebar icon in the top-left corner of the Safari window and select Bookmarks.
- Locate the folder you wish to open.
- Right-click (or Control-click) the folder.
- Select Open in New Tabs from the context menu.
Using Safari on an iPhone or iPad
You can easily perform the same action on iOS and iPadOS devices using a long-press gesture:
- Open the Safari app and tap the Bookmarks icon (it looks like an open book) at the bottom or top of the screen.
- Navigate to the folder containing your bookmarks.
- Touch and hold (long press) the folder name until a quick-action menu pops up.
- Tap Open in New Tabs from the menu options.
Changing How Tabs Replace Current Windows
By default, opening a folder of bookmarks will simply add those tabs to your current Safari window. On a Mac, if you want the folder of bookmarks to replace all of your currently open tabs instead:
- Go to Safari > Settings (or Preferences) in the top menu bar.
- Click the Tabs tab.
- Check the box for Use ⌘-1 through ⌘-9 to switch tabs (if applicable) and look at how your tab behaviors are configured, or hold the Option (⌥) key while viewing the right-click menu on a bookmark folder. Holding the Option (⌥) key changes the menu option from "Open in New Tabs" to Replace Tabs, which will close your current tabs and only leave the folder's bookmarks open.
