How to Exclude Websites from Lockdown Mode in Safari

Apple's Lockdown Mode provides extreme security by strictly limiting certain functionalities, which often causes trusted websites to display incorrectly or stop working entirely. This article explains how to bypass these restrictions for specific websites in the Safari browser on iPhone, iPad, and Mac without disabling Lockdown Mode across your entire device.

Exclude a Website on iPhone or iPad

To allow a trusted website to function normally on iOS or iPadOS, you must adjust the settings while actively viewing the site in Safari.

  1. Open the Safari app and navigate to the trusted website you want to exclude.
  2. Tap the Page Menu button (the "AA" icon or the rectangle with two lines) located on the left side of the address bar.
  3. Tap Website Settings from the pop-up menu.
  4. Toggle off the switch next to Use Lockdown Mode.
  5. Tap Turn Off on the confirmation prompt.
  6. Tap Done in the top right corner. The webpage will automatically reload without Lockdown Mode restrictions.

Exclude a Website on Mac

You can easily lift Lockdown Mode restrictions for a specific website on macOS directly from the Safari menu bar.

  1. Open Safari and go to the website you wish to exclude.
  2. Click Safari in the top-left menu bar.
  3. Select Settings for [Website URL]... from the dropdown menu. (Alternatively, you can right-click or Control-click the website's address in the search bar and select this option).
  4. Uncheck the box next to Enable Lockdown Mode.
  5. Click Turn Off in the warning dialog box to confirm. The website will immediately refresh with full functionality restored.

Manage All Excluded Websites

If you need to review your list of excluded websites or re-enable protection for them later, you can do so through your system settings.

On iPhone and iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Privacy & Security > Lockdown Mode.
  3. Tap Configure Web Browsing.
  4. From here, you can see all excluded Safari websites and toggle their Lockdown Mode status back on.

On Mac:

  1. Open Safari and click Safari > Settings (or Preferences) in the menu bar.
  2. Click the Websites tab at the top of the window.
  3. Scroll down the left sidebar and select Lockdown Mode.
  4. Use the dropdown menus next to your listed websites to change their status back to On.
