Enable Automatic Offline Reading List in Safari on iOS

This article provides a quick and easy guide on how to enable the Automatic Offline Saving feature for your Safari Reading List on an iPhone or iPad. By turning on this specific setting in iOS, every webpage you add to your Reading List will automatically download to your device, allowing you to read your saved articles anytime without needing an active internet connection.

To enable automatic offline saving for your Reading List, you must use the main iOS Settings app rather than the settings menu inside the Safari browser itself.

Follow these steps to turn on the feature:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Safari. (Note: If you are using iOS 18 or later, scroll to the bottom, tap Apps, and then select Safari from the list).
  3. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the Safari settings menu to find the Reading List section.
  4. Locate the Automatically Save Offline option.
  5. Tap the toggle switch next to Automatically Save Offline so that it turns green.

Once enabled, any webpage you add to your Safari Reading List will automatically be saved to your device's local storage. You can then access these pages without Wi-Fi or cellular data by opening Safari, tapping the Bookmarks icon (which looks like an open book), and selecting the Reading List tab (which looks like a pair of eyeglasses).
