Disable Safari Shared with You for Specific Messages

This article provides a quick, step-by-step guide on how to stop web links from a specific Messages conversation from appearing in the "Shared with You" section of your Safari browser. By adjusting a single setting within an individual chat thread on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you can customize your Safari start page and hide links from certain people without turning off the feature entirely.

On iPhone and iPad

To hide links from a specific person or group chat on iOS or iPadOS, you need to adjust the settings inside the Messages app:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap on the specific conversation thread containing the links you want to hide.
  3. Tap the contact's name, profile picture, or group icon at the very top of the screen to open the details menu.
  4. Scroll down and find the option labeled Show in Shared with You.
  5. Tap the toggle switch to turn it off (the switch will turn gray).
  6. Tap Done in the top-right corner of the screen.

On Mac

You can also manage this setting directly from the Messages app on macOS:

  1. Open the Messages app on your Mac.
  2. Select the specific conversation thread from the left sidebar.
  3. Click the Info (i) button located in the top-right corner of the conversation window.
  4. Scroll down and uncheck the box or turn off the toggle for Show in Shared with You.

What Happens Next

Once you turn this setting off, all past and future web links from that specific conversation will immediately disappear from the "Shared with You" section in Safari. The other person or group members will not be notified that you changed this setting, and links from your other contacts will continue to appear in Safari as normal. If you ever want the links to show up again, simply follow the same steps and turn the toggle back on.
