Repeat Effect Shortcut in Paint.NET

In Paint.NET, repeating your most recently used effect is a fast way to apply consistent edits across different layers or selections. This article explains the exact keyboard shortcut command to repeat an effect, where to find it in the application menu, and how the command behaves during image editing.

The keyboard shortcut to repeat the last used effect in Paint.NET is Ctrl + F.

When you apply any filter or effect—such as a blur, sharpen, noise reduction, or distortion—Paint.NET stores that effect along with its configured parameters in memory. Pressing Ctrl + F immediately executes that same effect again using the exact same settings, bypassing the need to open the effect dialog box.

To access the command using the mouse instead of the shortcut:

  1. Click on the Effects menu in the top toolbar.
  2. The very first option at the top of the dropdown list will display Repeat [Effect Name], with the name of the last applied effect substituted in brackets.
  3. Click this item to apply the effect to your active layer or current selection.

If you have not used an effect since opening the application, the Repeat Effect option will remain disabled or grayed out until an initial effect is executed. Additionally, if you switch between tools or make new selections, the stored effect parameters remain intact, allowing you to quickly replicate complex styling across multiple images or isolated areas.
