Paint.NET Undo Keyboard Shortcut

This guide explains the primary keyboard shortcut used to undo actions in the Paint.NET image editing software. You will learn the exact key combination to reverse mistakes quickly, how to redo actions if you change your mind, and how to utilize the History panel for managing multiple edits simultaneously.

The keyboard shortcut to undo an action in Paint.NET is Ctrl + Z on Windows. Pressing this combination immediately cancels your most recent edit, whether it was a brush stroke, a selection, a color adjustment, or a layer modification.

If you need to reverse multiple steps, you can press Ctrl + Z repeatedly to step backward through your edit history one action at a time.

To reverse an undo action, Paint.NET uses the redo shortcut:

  • Ctrl + Y reverts the undo command and restores the previously undone action.

For greater control over your changes, you can also use the History window (accessible by pressing F6 or clicking the History icon in the top right corner). The History window lists every action taken during your session, allowing you to click directly on any previous state to instantly revert your project to that exact point in time.
