How to Change Line Thickness in Paint.NET
Adjusting line thickness before drawing in Paint.NET allows you to create strokes that match your exact design specifications without needing post-draw corrections. This guide walks you through selecting your desired drawing tool, locating the brush width settings in the top toolbar, and presetting the thickness value before applying any stroke to your canvas.
Steps to Adjust Line Thickness
Select Your Drawing Tool Open Paint.NET and navigate to the Tools palette on the left side of the screen. Click on the Line / Curve tool (keyboard shortcut: O). You can also use this same method for the Paintbrush tool or any of the Shape tools.
Locate the Brush Width Setting Look at the horizontal Tool Options bar directly above the main canvas area. When a drawing tool is active, this bar displays specific modifiers for that tool, including a setting labeled Brush width.
Set the Desired Thickness
- Click the dropdown arrow next to the Brush width box to choose from a list of preset pixel sizes.
- Alternatively, double-click the number inside the box and type in any exact pixel value you require.
- You can also use the up and down arrow buttons next to the value to increase or decrease the stroke size incrementally.
Draw Your Line Click and drag on the canvas to draw your line. The stroke will render using the exact thickness value you set. If you are using the Line/Curve tool, you can still adjust the control nubs to curve the line before finalizing it, but the thickness will remain locked to your specified setting.
