Route VoiceMeeter Potato Audio to OBS Studio

This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to route audio from VoiceMeeter Potato into OBS Studio. You will learn how to map your microphone, system sounds, and discord/music channels to VoiceMeeter’s virtual outputs and configure OBS Studio to capture these sources on separate audio tracks for maximum control over your stream or recording volume.

Step 1: Understand VoiceMeeter Potato Virtual Outputs

VoiceMeeter Potato features three virtual output buses, which act as virtual microphones that Windows and OBS Studio can listen to. * B1 corresponds to VoiceMeeter Output (VAIO) * B2 corresponds to VoiceMeeter AUX Output (AUX VAIO) * B3 corresponds to VoiceMeeter VAIO 3 Output (VAIO 3)

Step 2: Route Inputs to Virtual Buses in VoiceMeeter

To send your audio from VoiceMeeter to OBS, you must assign your hardware and software inputs to these virtual buses.

  1. Your Microphone (Physical Input): Locate your microphone under Hardware Input 1. Click the B1 button to route your microphone to the B1 virtual output. Deselect A1 (your headphones) so you do not hear your own voice echoing.
  2. System/Game Audio (Virtual Input): Locate the VoiceMeeter VAIO virtual input channel. Click the B2 button to route your game and system audio to the B2 virtual output.
  3. Discord/Communications (Virtual Input): Locate the VoiceMeeter AUX virtual input channel. Click the B3 button to route your voice chat to the B3 virtual output.

(Note: Ensure the physical monitoring button, usually A1, is active on your virtual inputs so you can still hear your game and Discord in your headphones).

Step 3: Configure OBS Studio Audio Settings

Now that VoiceMeeter is sending audio to its virtual outputs, you need to configure OBS Studio to receive them.

  1. Open OBS Studio.
  2. Click on Settings in the bottom right corner, then select the Audio tab.
  3. Under the Global Audio Devices section, disable the default “Desktop Audio” and “Mic/Auxiliary Audio” to prevent duplicate sound.
  4. Map the virtual devices as follows:
    • Set Mic/Auxiliary Audio to VoiceMeeter Output (VB-Audio VoiceMeeter VAIO). (This is your microphone from B1).
    • Set Mic/Auxiliary Audio 2 to VoiceMeeter AUX Output (VB-Audio VoiceMeeter AUX VAIO). (This is your system/game audio from B2).
    • Set Mic/Auxiliary Audio 3 to VoiceMeeter 3 Output (VB-Audio VoiceMeeter Virtual VAIO 3). (This is your Discord/communications from B3).
  5. Click Apply and then OK.

Step 4: Verify and Label Your Audio Sources

After applying the settings, you will see three distinct volume meters in the OBS Audio Mixer panel.

To keep your workspace organized, click the three dots next to each new audio source in the OBS Mixer, select Rename, and label them accordingly (e.g., “Microphone”, “Game Audio”, and “Discord”). You can now control, mute, or apply filters to each audio source independently within OBS Studio.
