Mute Browser Tab Audio in OBS Studio
This guide explains how to isolate and mute the audio of a specific web browser tab in OBS Studio using the “Application Audio Capture” source. By utilizing this feature, you can control your browser’s audio independently in the OBS mixer without muting your entire desktop audio, allowing you to easily silence background videos, music, or ads during your stream or recording.
Step 1: Isolate the Browser Tab
Because OBS Studio’s Application Audio Capture targets entire applications or specific windows rather than individual tabs, you must first separate the tab you want to control. 1. Open your web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge). 2. Click and drag the specific tab you want to mute away from the main window to open it in its own dedicated browser window.
Step 2: Add the Application Audio Capture Source
- Open OBS Studio.
- Go to the Sources dock at the bottom of the screen.
- Click the + (Add) button and select Application Audio Capture from the list.
- Name the source (e.g., “Browser Audio”) and click OK.
Step 3: Target Your Isolated Browser Window
- In the Properties window that appears, locate the Window dropdown menu.
- Select the specific browser window containing the tab you isolated in Step 1.
- Under Window Match Priority, select Match title, otherwise find window of same executable. This ensures OBS targets that specific window.
- Click OK.
Step 4: Mute or Adjust the Audio in the Mixer
- Look at the Audio Mixer dock in OBS Studio. You will now see a dedicated volume meter for your “Browser Audio” source.
- To mute the browser tab, click the Speaker icon below the volume slider for that source. The icon will turn red, indicating it is muted.
- To unmute or adjust the volume, click the speaker icon again or drag the volume slider to your desired level.
