How to Zoom Facecam in OBS with Move Transition
This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to use the “Move Transition” plugin in OBS Studio to create a smooth, professional zoom-in animation on your facecam. You will learn how to install the plugin, set up the “Move Source” filter, configure the zoom-in and zoom-out states, and assign hotkeys to trigger the transition seamlessly during your live streams or video recordings.
Step 1: Install the Move Transition Plugin
Before starting, you must have the Move Transition plugin installed. 1. Go to the OBS Project forum and search for the “Move Transition” plugin. 2. Download the installer compatible with your operating system (Windows, Mac, or Linux). 3. Close OBS Studio, run the installer, and then reopen OBS Studio.
Step 2: Set Up Your Scene and Facecam
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene containing your facecam.
- Ensure your webcam/facecam is added as a source (e.g., “Video Capture Device”).
- Position your facecam in its default, non-zoomed state (for example, in the corner of your screen).
Step 3: Create the “Zoom In” Filter
To trigger the zoom effect, you will apply a filter directly to your
facecam source. 1. Right-click on your facecam source in the
Sources dock and select Filters. 2.
Click the + (plus) icon under the Effect
Filters section. 3. Select Move Source from
the list. Name this filter Facecam Zoom In and click
OK. 4. In the filter settings, locate the
Transform section. 5. In your OBS preview window,
resize and reposition your facecam to the desired “zoomed-in” position
(e.g., larger and centered). 6. Back in the filter settings, click the
Get Transform button. This saves the current
coordinates and size as the destination for this filter.
Step 4: Create the “Zoom Out” Filter
Now you need a filter to return the facecam to its original size and
position. 1. Return your facecam in the OBS preview window to its
original small, corner position. 2. In the same Filters
window, click the + icon under Effect
Filters again. 3. Select Move Source and name
it Facecam Zoom Out. Click OK. 4. With the
new filter selected, click the Get Transform button to
save the default, smaller coordinates.
Step 5: Customize the Animation Smoothness
To make the transition look professional, you must adjust the easing
and duration. Do the following for both the Facecam Zoom In
and Facecam Zoom Out filters: 1. Select the filter. 2. Set
the Duration to between 300 and
500 milliseconds (lower numbers make it faster, higher
numbers make it slower). 3. Change the Easing option to
Ease In Out. 4. Change the Easing
Function to Cubic or
Sinusoidal for the smoothest deceleration curve.
Step 6: Assign Hotkeys for Control
To trigger the zoom transition while gaming or presenting, map the
filters to your keyboard or stream deck. 1. Go to
Settings in the bottom right corner of OBS Studio. 2.
Click on the Hotkeys tab. 3. In the search bar at the
top, type the name of your facecam source. 4. Scroll down to find the
entries for Show ‘Facecam Zoom In’ and Show
‘Facecam Zoom Out’. 5. Assign a keybind to each action (for
example, Numpad 1 to zoom in and Numpad 2 to
zoom out). 6. Click Apply and then
OK.
You can now test the hotkeys to watch your facecam smoothly transition between the two sizes and positions.
