How to Use Transition Table in OBS Studio

In OBS Studio, setting up unique transitions between specific scenes can elevate the professionalism of your live stream or video recording. While OBS defaults to a single global transition for all scene changes, the Transition Table plugin allows you to customize transitions between any two specific scenes. This guide will walk you through downloading, installing, and configuring the Transition Table plugin to create seamless, automated transitions for your broadcast.

Step 1: Install the Transition Table Plugin

To get started, you need to download and install the plugin: 1. Search for “OBS Transition Table plugin” on the official OBS Resources forum and download the latest version compatible with your operating system. 2. Run the installer or manually extract the downloaded files into your OBS Studio installation folder (usually C:\Program Files\obs-studio). 3. Restart OBS Studio to load the plugin.

Step 2: Open the Transition Table Interface

Once OBS Studio has restarted, you can access the plugin’s configuration menu: 1. Click on Tools in the top menu bar of OBS Studio. 2. Select Transition Table from the dropdown menu. This will open a dedicated settings window where you will build your custom transition rules.

Step 3: Configure Your Custom Transitions

The Transition Table interface works by mapping a starting scene to a destination scene. 1. Click the Add (+) button at the bottom of the window to create a new rule. 2. Under the From column, select the scene you are transitioning away from. You can also select [Any] if you want the transition to trigger when moving from any scene to a specific one. 3. Under the To column, select the destination scene. 4. Under the Transition column, select the transition style you want to use (e.g., Fade, Cut, or a custom Stinger transition). 5. Under the Duration column, specify the length of the transition in milliseconds (e.g., 300ms for a quick fade or 1000ms for a slower transition).

Step 4: Manage Rule Hierarchy and Test

The plugin reads rules from the top of the table down. If you have conflicting rules, the one closest to the top of the list takes priority. You can use the up and down arrow buttons in the plugin window to reorder your transition rules.

Once your rules are set, click Close. Your custom transitions are now active. Test them by clicking through your scenes in the OBS Scene list to ensure the correct transition triggers for each specific scene change.
