How to Use OBS Studio for Microsoft Teams Webinars
This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to use OBS Studio to host professional live webinars on Microsoft Teams. You will learn how to configure OBS Studio as a virtual production suite, connect your customized video feed directly into Microsoft Teams using the Virtual Camera feature, and manage your audio sources for a seamless presentation.
Step 1: Prepare Your Presentation in OBS Studio
Before launching your webinar, you must set up your visual layout in OBS Studio.
- Open OBS Studio on your computer.
- In the Scenes box (bottom-left), click the + icon to create a new scene (e.g., “Webinar Intro” or “Main Presentation”).
- In the Sources box, click the +
icon to add your media elements. Common sources for webinars include:
- Video Capture Device for your webcam.
- Window Capture or Display Capture to share your PowerPoint slides or browser.
- Image to add company logos or background overlays.
- Arrange and resize your sources in the preview window to create a professional look.
Step 2: Activate the OBS Virtual Camera
To send your OBS video feed to Microsoft Teams, you must use the built-in Virtual Camera feature.
- Locate the Controls dock on the bottom-right side of the OBS interface.
- Click the Start Virtual Camera button.
- Once active, the button will change to “Stop Virtual Camera.” Keep OBS running in the background.
Step 3: Configure Microsoft Teams Video Settings
Now you need to tell Microsoft Teams to use OBS Studio as your camera source instead of your default webcam.
- Open Microsoft Teams and join or start your webinar meeting.
- Before joining the meeting (or during), click on the Device Settings (the gear icon).
- Under the Camera dropdown menu, select OBS Virtual Camera.
- You should now see your customized OBS canvas in the Teams video preview window.
Step 4: Configure Your Audio
The OBS Virtual Camera only sends video, not audio. To ensure your audience can hear you, you must configure your microphone correctly in Teams.
- Standard Method: In the Teams Device Settings, select your physical microphone or headset under the Audio devices section. This is the easiest method if you only need to broadcast your voice.
- Advanced Method (Sharing PC Audio): If you need to play video clips or audio from OBS, install a virtual audio driver like VB-Cable. Set the OBS audio monitoring device to the virtual cable in OBS advanced settings, and then select the virtual cable as your microphone input in Microsoft Teams.
Step 5: Start Your Webinar
With your video and audio configured, you are ready to begin.
- Start your Microsoft Teams webinar as host.
- Control your slide transitions, camera angles, and lower-third graphics directly inside OBS Studio.
- Any changes you make in OBS will automatically update in real-time on your Microsoft Teams video feed for your audience to see.
