How to Use MIDI Controller to Control OBS Volume
Yes, you can use a MIDI keyboard slider, knob, or fader to control the audio mixer volumes in OBS Studio. While OBS Studio does not support MIDI input natively, you can easily add this functionality using a free, open-source plugin. This article explains how to quickly set up your MIDI controller to manage your stream’s audio levels in real-time.
To connect your MIDI keyboard to OBS Studio, you will need to install the obs-midi-mgmt plugin, which is the most popular and reliable tool for this task. Download the installer compatible with your operating system from the official OBS Resources website and install it while OBS is closed.
Once the plugin is installed, connect your MIDI keyboard to your computer and open OBS Studio. Navigate to the top menu, click on Tools, and select OBS MIDI Settings.
In the settings window, you will see a list of connected devices. Locate your MIDI keyboard and check the box to enable it. Next, click on the Bindings tab to start mapping your physical controls to the software.
To map a slider, click Add to create a new binding. Move the physical slider on your MIDI keyboard, and the plugin will automatically detect the specific Control Change (CC) message. Once detected, go to the Action dropdown menu, select Set Volume, and then select the target OBS audio source (such as your microphone or desktop audio) from the list.
After saving your settings, the physical slider on your MIDI keyboard will control the corresponding fader in the OBS audio mixer instantly. You can repeat this process for multiple sliders or knobs to manage your entire audio mix physically during your broadcasts.
