How to Toggle OBS Source Filters with Hotkeys
Controlling your audio and video sources on the fly is crucial for a seamless live stream or recording. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to map a specific hotkey to toggle individual source filters—such as chroma key, color correction, or noise suppression—directly within OBS Studio using native settings.
Step 1: Add the Filter to Your Source
Before you can map a hotkey, ensure the filter is active on your desired source: 1. Right-click the source (e.g., your camera or microphone) in the Sources dock. 2. Select Filters. 3. Click the + icon to add your desired filter, configure it, and close the window.
Step 2: Open OBS Hotkeys Settings
- Click on File in the top-left menu of OBS Studio.
- Select Settings.
- Click on the Hotkeys tab in the left-hand sidebar.
Step 3: Locate Your Source and Filter
- Use the Filter search bar at the top of the Hotkeys menu to search for the name of your specific source.
- Scroll down to find the section dedicated to that source.
- Under the source name, look for the options labeled Show [Filter Name] and Hide [Filter Name].
Step 4: Map the Toggle Hotkey
OBS requires you to bind the hotkey to both the “Show” and “Hide”
actions to function as a toggle: 1. Click inside the input field next to
Show [Filter Name]. 2. Press the key combination on
your keyboard or macro pad that you want to use (e.g.,
Ctrl + F1). 3. Click inside the input field next to
Hide [Filter Name]. 4. Press the exact same key
combination (Ctrl + F1). 5. Click Apply
and then OK to save your changes.
Step 5: Test the Shortcut
Return to your main OBS screen and press your chosen hotkey. The filter will now turn on and off with each press, allowing you to control your effects instantly during live broadcasts.
