How to Take Scrolling Screenshots with OBS Studio

While OBS Studio is primarily known for live streaming and video recording, it also serves as a powerful tool for capturing high-resolution, full-page scrolling screenshots of websites. By leveraging OBS’s native Browser Source feature and customizing its resolution limits, you can render an entire webpage vertically and capture it in a single, high-quality image without manual scrolling or stitching. This guide provides a direct, step-by-step walkthrough to configure OBS Studio and capture your full-page screenshots instantly.

Step 1: Add a Browser Source in OBS

To capture a webpage, you must load it directly inside OBS using a dedicated browser source rather than capturing your desktop browser.

  1. Open OBS Studio.
  2. Go to the Sources dock at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click the + (Add) icon and select Browser from the menu.
  4. Name the source (e.g., “Webpage Capture”) and click OK.

Step 2: Configure the Webpage URL and High-Resolution Dimensions

To capture the entire page without scrollbars, you must set the source dimensions to match the full height of the webpage.

  1. In the Browser Source properties window, locate the URL field and paste the address of the website you want to capture.
  2. Set the Width to a standard desktop width, such as 1920 (or 2560 for higher resolution).
  3. Set the Height to a large value that can accommodate the entire length of the page (e.g., 4000, 6000, or 8000 pixels).
  4. Click OK. The webpage will render in the preview window as a very tall, narrow strip.

Note: If the bottom of the webpage is cut off in the preview, reopen the source properties and increase the Height value until the entire page is visible.

Step 3: Interact with the Webpage (Optional)

If you need to log into the website, accept cookie prompts, or close pop-ups before taking the screenshot, you can interact with the page directly inside OBS.

  1. Right-click the Browser Source in your Sources list.
  2. Select Interact from the context menu.
  3. A window will appear allowing you to click, scroll, and type on the webpage just like a standard web browser. Close the interaction window when finished.

Step 4: Capture and Save the High-Resolution Screenshot

Once the webpage is fully loaded and formatted to your liking, you can use OBS’s built-in source screenshot utility to capture it.

  1. Right-click the Browser Source in the Sources dock (do not right-click the main preview window).
  2. Select Screenshot (Selected Source) from the context menu.
  3. OBS will instantly capture the entire rendered height of the webpage at the exact resolution you specified in Step 2.

Step 5: Locate Your Saved Screenshot

By default, OBS saves source screenshots to your default recording directory.

  1. Go to the top menu of OBS and click File.
  2. Select Show Recordings.
  3. A folder window will open containing your high-resolution PNG screenshot, named with the source title and a timestamp.
