How to Rename Audio Tracks in OBS Studio
Managing multiple audio sources in OBS Studio can get confusing when exporting your videos for editing. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to assign custom names to your discrete audio output tracks within the OBS settings panel, allowing you to easily identify your mic, game audio, desktop audio, and discord tracks during post-production.
Step 1: Access the OBS Settings
Open OBS Studio on your computer. In the bottom-right corner of the interface, click on the Settings button (or go to the top menu and select File > Settings).
Step 2: Switch to Advanced Output Mode
In the left-hand sidebar of the Settings window, click on the Output tab. At the top of the Output menu, locate the Output Mode dropdown menu. If it is set to Simple, click the dropdown and change it to Advanced. This unlocks the multi-track settings.
Step 3: Name Your Audio Tracks
- Click on the Recording tab located at the top of the Output settings window.
- Scroll down until you see the Audio Track section.
- You will see checkboxes for Tracks 1 through 6, each with an editable text field next to it.
- Click inside the text box next to the track number you want to configure and type your custom name (for example, type “Microphone” for Track 1, “Game Audio” for Track 2, and “Discord” for Track 3).
Step 4: Save and Apply Changes
Once you have entered the custom names for all your active audio tracks, click the Apply button in the bottom-right corner, and then click OK to close the Settings window.
Your custom audio track names are now saved. When you record videos using container formats that support audio track titles (such as MP4 or MKV), video editing software like DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro will display these custom names, making your editing workflow much faster.
