How to Loop OBS Scenes with Advanced Scene Switcher

This guide explains how to configure the “Advanced Scene Switcher” plugin in OBS Studio to automatically loop a sequence of promotional scenes. By setting up simple transition rules, you can create a hands-free, continuous cycle of promotional material, advertisements, or break screens during your live streams.

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you have downloaded and installed the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin for OBS Studio. You must also have your promotional scenes already created in your OBS “Scenes” dock (for example: “Promo 1”, “Promo 2”, and “Promo 3”).

Step 1: Open the Plugin Settings

  1. Launch OBS Studio.
  2. In the top menu bar, click on Tools.
  3. Select Advanced Scene Switcher from the dropdown menu to open the configuration window.

Step 2: Configure the Sequence

To create a continuous loop, you will chain your scenes together using the Sequence tab.

  1. In the Advanced Scene Switcher window, click on the Sequence tab.
  2. Click the + (plus) icon at the bottom of the window to create your first transition rule.
  3. Configure the first rule to transition from your first scene to your second scene:
    • Set the dropdowns to read: If active scene is [Promo 1] for at least [10.0] seconds, then switch to [Promo 2] using [Cut/Fade]. (Adjust the seconds to match your preferred display duration).
  4. Click the + icon again to create the next transition:
    • Configure it: If active scene is [Promo 2] for at least [10.0] seconds, then switch to [Promo 3].
  5. Complete the loop by creating a final transition that points back to the first scene:
    • Configure it: If active scene is [Promo 3] for at least [10.0] seconds, then switch to [Promo 1].

Step 3: Start the Automation

Once your sequence rules are set, you must turn on the plugin’s background service.

  1. Click on the General tab of the Advanced Scene Switcher window.
  2. Under the “Service State” section, click the Start button. The status indicator should change to “Running”.
  3. Close the Advanced Scene Switcher settings window.

Step 4: Test the Loop

To test your configuration, manually click on Promo 1 in your OBS Scenes dock. The plugin will take over, automatically transitioning to Promo 2, then Promo 3, and back to Promo 1 indefinitely. To stop the loop, simply select any scene that is not part of your configured sequence rules.
