How to Fit Image to Screen in OBS Studio
When importing high-resolution images into OBS Studio, they often exceed the canvas boundaries, requiring tedious manual resizing. This article provides a quick, step-by-step guide on how to use the “Fit to Screen” keyboard shortcut to instantly resize any oversized image source to perfectly match your stream layout.
The Instant Keyboard Shortcut
The fastest way to resize an oversized image in OBS Studio is by using a simple keyboard shortcut.
- Select the Image Source: Click on the image source either in the Sources dock or directly inside the preview window. A red boundary box will appear around it.
- Press the Shortcut:
- Windows / Linux: Press
Ctrl + F - Mac: Press
Cmd + F
- Windows / Linux: Press
Once pressed, the image will instantly resize to fit within the boundaries of your canvas while preserving its original aspect ratio.
Alternative Method: Using the Right-Click Menu
If you prefer using your mouse, you can achieve the same result through the context menu:
- Right-click on the oversized image source in the preview window or the Sources list.
- Hover your cursor over Transform in the drop-down menu.
- Click on Fit to screen from the sub-menu.
Fit to Screen vs. Stretch to Screen
- Fit to Screen (
Ctrl + F): Resizes the image to be as large as possible within the canvas without changing its proportions. If the image has a different aspect ratio than your canvas, you will see black bars on the sides or top/bottom. - Stretch to Screen (
Ctrl + S): Forces the image to completely fill the canvas. Note that this will distort the image if its original aspect ratio does not match your project’s aspect ratio.
