How to Disable OBS Studio Preview to Save GPU

Running OBS Studio can heavily tax your graphics card, especially when streaming or recording high-end games. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to completely disable the OBS Studio preview window to free up valuable GPU resources and improve your overall system performance.

Why Disable the OBS Preview?

When OBS Studio is open, it constantly renders your scene in real-time within the preview window. This rendering process requires active GPU cycle consumption. By disabling this preview, you stop the GPU from rendering the application interface’s video feed, directing those saved hardware resources back into your game or other demanding applications.

Method 1: The Quick Right-Click Method

This is the fastest way to toggle the preview window off and on.

1. Open OBS Studio.
2. Locate the main preview window where your scene is being displayed.
3. Right-click anywhere inside the preview window.
4. From the context menu that appears, click to uncheck Enable Preview.
