How to Create Nested Scenes in OBS Studio

Managing multiple branding overlays across various scenes in OBS Studio can be tedious and time-consuming. This guide explains how to use nested scenes—essentially placing one scene inside another—to group your logos, frames, and social widgets into a single master container. By organizing your assets this way, you can easily toggle your entire branding package on or off across your entire stream with a single click or hotkey, ensuring visual consistency throughout your broadcast.

Step 1: Create the Branding Container Scene

Instead of adding your logos and overlays directly to your live gameplay or camera scenes, you need to create a dedicated scene to hold them.

  1. Go to the Scenes dock in OBS Studio.
  2. Click the + (plus) icon to create a new scene.
  3. Name this scene something recognizable, such as [Overlay] Branding Group, and click OK.

Step 2: Add and Position Your Branding Assets

Next, populate your new container scene with all the visual elements you want to group together.

  1. Select your newly created [Overlay] Branding Group scene.
  2. Go to the Sources dock and click the + icon to add your elements (e.g., Image for logos, Text for social media handles, or Browser for animated widgets).
  3. Arrange, resize, and position these sources in the canvas exactly where you want them to appear on your stream.

Step 3: Nest the Branding Scene into Your Active Scenes

Now you will insert your branding scene into your main production scenes.

  1. In the Scenes dock, select one of your main scenes (such as your “Gameplay” or “Just Chatting” scene).
  2. Go to the Sources dock of that main scene and click the + icon.
  3. Select Scene from the list of source options.
  4. Choose Add Existing, select your [Overlay] Branding Group scene, and click OK.

Repeat this process for any other scenes where you want your branding to appear.

Step 4: Toggle and Control the Group

With the scene nested, you can now manage all of your branding assets simultaneously.
