How to Create a New Scene Profile in OBS Studio
Managing different streaming or recording setups in OBS Studio is made simple using scene collections and profiles. This guide provides a direct, step-by-step walkthrough on how to create, name, and switch between new scene collections (which save your sources and layouts) and profiles (which save your stream settings and output configurations) so you can keep your content creation organized.
How to Create a New Scene Collection
In OBS Studio, “Scene Collections” are used to save and organize different sets of scenes and sources (for example, one layout for gaming, one for podcasts, and one for work presentations).
- Open OBS Studio on your computer.
- Locate the top menu bar and click on Scene Collection.
- Select New from the dropdown menu.
- A prompt will appear asking you to name your new collection. Type in a descriptive name (such as “Gaming Stream” or “Work Presentation”).
- Click OK.
Your canvas will now be blank, allowing you to build a completely new layout of scenes and sources from scratch without affecting your previous setups.
How to Create a New Settings Profile
If you want to save different stream settings, bitrates, or resolutions (for example, switching between streaming on Twitch and recording locally in high definition), you will need to create a new “Profile.”
- Click on Profile in the top menu bar of OBS Studio.
- Select New from the dropdown.
- Enter a name for the profile (such as “YouTube Stream 1080p” or “Local HD Recording”).
- Click OK.
- (Optional) The Auto-Configuration Wizard may appear. You can follow the prompts to optimize settings automatically or cancel to adjust them manually in the Settings menu.
How to Switch Between Your Saved Configurations
Once you have created multiple scene collections or profiles, switching between them takes only a few clicks:
- To change layouts: Click Scene Collection in the top menu and select the name of the layout you want to load.
- To change settings: Click Profile in the top menu and select the profile you want to apply.
