How to Change OBS Transition Duration Globally
Adjusting the global transition duration in OBS Studio allows you to control how quickly or slowly your scenes fade, wipe, or slide during a live stream or recording. This article provides a quick, step-by-step guide on how to locate the Scene Transitions dock and change the default millisecond duration globally for all of your scene cuts.
Step 1: Locate the Scene Transitions Dock
By default, OBS Studio features a dedicated dock for managing transitions. 1. Look for the Scene Transitions dock on your OBS interface (usually located near the bottom right next to the “Controls” dock). 2. If you cannot find it, click on Docs in the top menu bar of OBS Studio. 3. Ensure that Scene Transitions is checked in the dropdown list to make the panel visible.
Step 2: Set Your Transition Type
Before adjusting the duration, ensure you have the correct transition style selected. 1. In the Scene Transitions dock, click the dropdown menu (which default to “Cut” or “Fade”). 2. Select your preferred global transition, such as Fade, Swipe, Slide, or a custom Stinger. Note that the “Cut” transition is instantaneous and does not have a duration setting.
Step 3: Adjust the Global Duration
Once a transition that supports timing (like Fade) is selected, the duration option will become active. 1. Locate the Duration input box next to or below the transition dropdown menu. 2. Enter your desired time in milliseconds (ms). For example, 300 ms is the standard default, while 1000 ms equals a slow, one-second transition. 3. Press Enter or click anywhere outside the box to save the change.
Once set, this new duration will apply globally to all scene transitions unless you have set specific transition overrides on individual scenes.
