How to Add Video Delay to Webcam in OBS

This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough on how to configure a video delay for a specific webcam source in OBS Studio. You will learn how to use the Video Delay (Async) filter to precisely sync your webcam footage with out-of-sync audio or other video inputs, ensuring a professional and cohesive live stream or video recording.

Step 1: Open the Filters Menu for Your Webcam

  1. Launch OBS Studio.
  2. Go to the Sources dock at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Locate your webcam source, right-click on it, and select Filters from the context menu. (Alternatively, select the webcam source and click the Filters button above the Sources dock).

Step 2: Add the Video Delay Filter

  1. In the Filters window that appears, look at the top section labeled Video/Audio Filters.
  2. Click the + (plus) icon in the bottom-left corner of this section.
  3. Select Video Delay (Async) from the list of available filters.
  4. Give the filter a name (e.g., “Webcam Delay”) and click OK.

Step 3: Configure the Delay Time

  1. Click on the newly added Video Delay filter to select it.
  2. In the settings panel on the right, you will see a Delay option measured in milliseconds (ms).
  3. Enter your desired delay value. For reference, 1000 milliseconds equals exactly 1 second. If your video is ahead of your audio by half a second, enter 500.
  4. Click Close at the bottom right of the Filters window.

Step 4: Test and Adjust

Monitor your live preview or record a short test video to check the synchronization. If the webcam is still out of sync, return to the Filters menu and adjust the millisecond value up or down until the video perfectly aligns with your audio or other sources.
