How to Add an Image Overlay in OBS Studio

Adding a logo or image overlay to your stream in OBS Studio is one of the easiest ways to brand your broadcast, display sponsor logos, or add customized graphic elements to your video feed. This guide provides a direct, step-by-step walkthrough on how to import an image source into OBS, position it on your screen, and adjust its settings for a professional look.

Step 1: Open OBS Studio and Select Your Scene

Launch OBS Studio on your computer. In the Scenes box (usually located in the bottom-left corner of the screen), click on the scene where you want to add your logo or image overlay.

Step 2: Add an Image Source

Navigate to the Sources dock next to the Scenes dock. Click the + (plus) icon at the bottom of the Sources box, then select Image from the pop-up menu.

Step 3: Name Your Image Source

A window will appear asking you to create or select a source. Type in a recognizable name for your overlay (for example, “Stream Logo”) and click OK.

Step 4: Locate and Import the Image File

In the properties window that opens, click the Browse button. Locate the image file on your computer, select it, and click Open.

Note: For logos and overlays, it is highly recommended to use PNG files with transparent backgrounds so your video feed remains visible behind the graphic.

Once the preview looks correct, click OK to add the image to your canvas.

Step 5: Position and Resize the Overlay

Your image will now appear on top of your video canvas. * To resize: Click on the image in the preview window to highlight it with a red bounding box. Click and drag any of the red corner handles to scale the image up or down while maintaining its aspect ratio. * To position: Click inside the bounding box and drag the image to your desired location on the screen (such as the top-right or bottom-left corner). * To crop: Hold down the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac) while dragging the boundary edges to crop out unwanted areas of the image.

Step 6: Lock the Source

Once you are satisfied with the size and placement of your overlay, click the lock icon next to the image source in the Sources dock. This prevents you from accidentally moving or resizing the logo while managing your stream.
