How to Add a LUT to OBS Studio Camera Source

Adding a Look-Up Table (LUT) to your camera source in OBS Studio is a simple and effective way to color grade your webcam or capture card feed in real-time. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step process to import and apply a LUT filter to your video capture device, allowing you to achieve a professional, cinematic look for your live streams or video recordings.

Step 1: Open the Filters Menu for Your Camera

  1. Launch OBS Studio on your computer.
  2. Locate the Sources dock at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Right-click on your camera source (e.g., “Video Capture Device”) and select Filters from the context menu. Alternatively, select the camera source and click the Filters button above the Sources dock.

Step 2: Add the “Apply LUT” Filter

  1. In the Filters window, look at the bottom-left section labeled Effect Filters.
  2. Click the plus (+) icon at the bottom of this pane.
  3. Select Apply LUT from the list of available filters.
  4. Give the filter a custom name if desired, then click OK.

Step 3: Load Your LUT File

  1. In the filter properties on the right side of the window, click the Browse button next to the “Path” field.
  2. Navigate to the folder on your computer where your LUT file is stored. OBS Studio natively supports LUTs in .png format as well as standard .cube 3D LUT files.
  3. Select your desired LUT file and click Open.

Step 4: Adjust the LUT Intensity

  1. Once loaded, the color grading will immediately apply to your camera preview in the Filters window.
  2. Use the Amount slider to control the strength of the LUT. A value of 1.00 applies the effect at 100% opacity, while lower values blend the LUT with your camera’s original colors.
  3. Once you are satisfied with the look, click Close at the bottom-right of the window.
