Force a Specific Scene to Cut in OBS Studio

While OBS Studio uses a global transition (such as a fade) when switching between most scenes, you can force a specific scene to always use a different transition. This guide explains how to use the “Transition Override” feature in OBS Studio to ensure a specific scene always cuts instantly, bypassing your default global transition settings.

How to Set a Transition Override to “Cut”

To force a specific scene to always use a cut transition, follow these steps:

  1. Locate your Scenes: Open OBS Studio and find the Scenes dock (usually in the bottom-left corner).
  2. Right-Click the Scene: Find the specific scene you want to always cut to, right-click its name to open the context menu.
  3. Select Transition Override: In the menu, hover your mouse over Transition Override.
  4. Choose “Cut”: A sub-menu will appear listing your available transitions. Select Cut from this list.

Once selected, a small icon or indicator may appear next to the transition override option in the menu, showing that “Cut” is active for that specific scene.

Testing the Setup

To verify that the override is working: * Select a different scene in your list. * Click on the scene you just modified. It should instantly cut onto the screen. * Click back to any other scene. It should use your default global transition (like Fade or Swipe) defined in the “Scene Transitions” dock.

How to Remove the Override

If you ever want to revert this setting so the scene uses the global transition again: 1. Right-click the scene in the Scenes dock. 2. Hover over Transition Override. 3. Select None (or Clear).
