Control OBS Scenes with Elgato Stream Deck Pedal
Using an Elgato Stream Deck pedal allows content creators and broadcasters to switch scenes in OBS Studio completely hands-free. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to configure your Stream Deck pedal using the official Stream Deck software and OBS Studio, enabling seamless, foot-controlled transitions during live streams or video recordings.
Step 1: Connect Your Hardware and Open the Software
- Plug your Elgato Stream Deck Pedal into a USB port on your computer.
- Open the Stream Deck software.
- Ensure OBS Studio is also open on your computer, as the Stream Deck software needs to detect it to establish a connection.
Step 2: Select the Pedal Device
In the top-left corner of the Stream Deck software window, locate the device dropdown menu. Select your Stream Deck Pedal from the list of connected devices. You will see a visual representation of the three foot pedals.
Step 3: Install the OBS Studio Plugin (If Needed)
Normally, OBS Studio integration is pre-installed. If you do not see OBS actions in the right-hand panel: 1. Click the Store icon (the keyboard/plus icon) in the Stream Deck software. 2. Search for OBS Studio by Elgato. 3. Click Install.
Step 4: Map the Scene Action to a Pedal
- In the right-hand actions menu of the Stream Deck software, scroll down to the OBS Studio category.
- Locate the action labeled Scene.
- Click and drag the Scene action onto one of the three pedal slots (Left, Middle, or Right) in the main interface.
Step 5: Configure the Target Scene
- Click on the newly mapped pedal slot in the Stream Deck software to open its settings at the bottom of the screen.
- In the Collection dropdown, select your active OBS Scene Collection.
- In the Scene dropdown, select the specific OBS scene you want this pedal to switch to (e.g., “Gameplay” or “Be Right Back”).
Step 6: Test the Foot Pedal
Switch over to your OBS Studio window. Press the mapped foot pedal. OBS Studio should instantly transition to the scene you designated.
You can repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the remaining two pedals to map them to different scenes, or configure them for other OBS functions like toggling your microphone, starting a transition, or triggering media sources.
