Change Default Transition Duration in OBS Studio
Adjusting the default transition duration in OBS Studio allows you to control how quickly or slowly your scenes blend into one another during a live stream or recording. This article provides a quick, step-by-step guide on how to change this setting globally across all scenes using the Scene Transitions dock.
How to Change the Global Transition Duration
By default, OBS Studio uses the Scene Transitions dock to manage the default transition style and speed for all scene changes. Follow these steps to adjust the global duration:
Locate the Scene Transitions Dock: Look for the Scene Transitions panel on your OBS Studio interface (it is typically located at the bottom of the screen next to the Sources or Controls dock). If you cannot find it, go to the top menu, select Docs, and ensure Scene Transitions is checked.
Select Your Transition Type: In the dropdown menu within the Scene Transitions dock, select the transition you want to use globally (such as Fade or Swipe).
Adjust the Duration: Next to the transition dropdown, you will see a box labeled Duration.
- Enter your preferred transition speed in milliseconds (ms).
- For reference, 300ms is the default setting. If you want a slower, 1-second transition, change this value to 1000ms.
Once you change this number, the new duration is automatically applied to all scene changes that use the global default.
Troubleshooting Scene-Specific Overrides
If a specific scene is not respecting your new global transition duration, it may have a scene-specific override enabled. To fix this:
- Right-click on the specific scene in your Scenes dock.
- Hover over Transition Override.
- Select None to force the scene to use the global transition duration you set in the previous steps.
