Capture Scrolling Webpage Screenshots with OBS Studio

This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to use OBS Studio to capture high-definition, scrolling screenshots of entire interactive web pages. While OBS is primarily known for screen recording and streaming, its powerful built-in browser source engine allows users to render web pages at massive vertical resolutions and export them as high-quality, unsegmented images.

Step 1: Set Up a High-Definition Canvas

Before importing your webpage, you need to configure your OBS canvas to handle high resolutions without scaling down the quality.

  1. Open OBS Studio and go to Settings in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Select the Video tab on the left.
  3. Change both the Base (Canvas) Resolution and Output (Scaled) Resolution to match your target width (e.g., 1920x1080 for standard HD, or higher if you want 4K clarity).
  4. Click Apply and then OK.

Step 2: Add the Browser Source

Instead of capturing your desktop browser, you will load the webpage directly inside OBS as a browser source. This allows you to set custom dimensions that exceed your physical monitor’s height.

  1. In the Sources dock, click the + icon and select Browser.
  2. Name the source (e.g., “Webpage Capture”) and click OK.
  3. In the properties window, paste the URL of the interactive web page into the URL field.
  4. Set the Width to a standard desktop width, such as 1920.
  5. Set the Height to a large number that will accommodate the entire length of the webpage (e.g., 5000 or 8000 pixels).
  6. Click OK.

Step 3: Interact with the Webpage

To capture interactive elements, log in, or bypass cookie consent banners, you must interact with the webpage inside OBS.

  1. Right-click the Browser Source you just created in your Sources list.
  2. Select Interact from the context menu.
  3. A new window will pop up showing the webpage. In this window, you can scroll, click buttons, enter login details, and load any dynamic elements or animations.
  4. Once the page is fully loaded and displayed exactly how you want it, close the Interact window.

Step 4: Take the High-Definition Screenshot

OBS Studio allows you to take a high-definition screenshot of a specific source, bypassing your canvas boundaries to capture the full, uncropped vertical height of the browser source.

  1. Right-click your Browser Source in the Sources list once more.
  2. Navigate to and click Screenshot (Source).
  3. OBS will instantly save the full-length web page as a high-definition PNG file.

To find your saved screenshot, go to the top menu bar of OBS Studio, click File, and select Show Recordings. Your high-definition, full-page scrolling screenshot will be saved in your default recording directory.
