Assign Unique Stingers per Scene in OBS Studio

While OBS Studio allows you to set a global transition, it lacks a native feature to trigger specific transitions based on which scene you are switching to. The “Transition Table” plugin solves this problem by allowing you to create custom rules for your transitions. This guide will walk you through installing the Transition Table plugin and configuring it to assign unique stinger transitions to specific target scenes in OBS Studio.

Step 1: Install the Transition Table Plugin

Before configuring your transitions, you must download and install the plugin.

  1. Close OBS Studio.
  2. Search for the Transition Table plugin on the official OBS Resources website.
  3. Download the installer compatible with your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
  4. Run the installer and follow the prompts, or manually extract the files into your OBS Studio installation folder.
  5. Relaunch OBS Studio.

Step 2: Open the Transition Table Interface

Once installed, the plugin can be accessed directly from the OBS Studio menu interface.

  1. In the top menu bar, click on Tools.
  2. Select Transition Table from the dropdown menu to open the plugin configuration window.
  3. (Optional) You can drag and dock this window anywhere in your OBS Studio layout for easy access.

Step 3: Set Up Your Stinger Transitions

Before creating rules in the Transition Table, ensure your stinger transitions are already created and configured in OBS.

  1. Locate the Scene Transitions dock in OBS.
  2. Click the dropdown menu and select Add: Stinger.
  3. Name your stinger, link it to your video file, set your transition point (in milliseconds or frames), and click OK.
  4. Repeat this process for all the unique stingers you plan to use.

Step 4: Configure Rules for Target Scenes

Now, you will map your newly created stingers to their specific target scenes using the Transition Table.

  1. In the Transition Table window, locate the fields to add a new rule.
  2. In the From Scene (or “Source”) dropdown, select [Any]. This ensures the stinger will trigger regardless of which scene you are currently on.
  3. In the To Scene (or “Destination”) dropdown, select your specific target scene.
  4. In the Transition dropdown, select the unique stinger transition you created for this target scene.
  5. Set the transition duration if prompted, then click the Add button (usually represented by a + sign).

The rule will now appear in your active Transition Table list. You can repeat these steps to assign different, unique stingers to other target scenes.

Step 5: Test Your Transitions

To ensure the rules are working correctly, simply click on different scenes in your Scenes dock. When you switch to a target scene defined in your Transition Table, the assigned stinger will play automatically. If you switch to a scene without a specific rule, OBS will default to your globally selected transition.
