MIDI System Exclusive (SysEx) messages designed specifically for
entertainment control systems. Instead of triggering musical notes, MSC
transmits explicit commands such as GO, STOP,
RESUME, TIMED_GO, and FIRE to
coordinate disparate show control equipment.
Synchronization of Stage Lighting
In theatrical lighting, timing and precision are critical. MSC allows the lighting console to seamlessly integrate into the broader technical infrastructure of a theater:

- Deterministic Execution: Unlike continuous control signals that dictate positions step-by-step, MSC transmits discrete event commands. The receiving console calculates its own fades, movement profiles, and internal timing, preserving local processing power and reliability.
- Simplicity and Reliability: The plain-text structure of cue numbering within MSC packets makes setup, testing, and troubleshooting straightforward with basic MIDI monitoring tools.
