How Linux Mint Uses Timeshift for System Restore

Linux Mint integrates the Timeshift utility as its primary system restore tool to protect the operating system against software breakage, failed updates, and configuration errors. By taking incremental snapshots of system files while leaving personal user data untouched, Timeshift allows users to roll their operating system back to a previous working state. The Role of Timeshift in Linux Mint

Linux Mint includes Timeshift pre-installed as a core component of its maintenance ecosystem. Unlike traditional backup utilities that archive personal documents, pictures, and downloads, Timeshift functions similarly to the System Restore feature found in Windows or Time Machine in macOS. It exclusively monitors operating system files, boot configurations, and installed applications.

By default, personal files located in /home directories are excluded. This separation ensures that when you restore a snapshot from two days ago, your personal documents created since then remain intact while the system files revert to the selected restore point.

Restoring the System
