Slide Layout Presets in LibreOffice Impress

LibreOffice Impress provides a collection of built-in slide layout presets designed to streamline the presentation creation process. These predefined arrangements automatically format slide titles, text blocks, and multimedia placeholders, allowing users to build structured, professional presentations quickly without manually positioning elements.

How to Access Layout Presets

Layout presets can be selected when inserting a new slide or applied to an existing slide. You can access them via: * The Sidebar: Open the Properties deck on the right-hand panel to view the Layouts section. * The Menu Bar: Navigate to Slide > Layout to choose from the available options.

Standard Slide Layout Presets

Impress organizes its layout presets based on the number and orientation of content placeholders. The standard presets include:

1. Title Slide

Designed specifically for the beginning of a presentation. It features two centered text boxes: one for the main presentation title and a smaller one below for a subtitle, author name, or date.

2. Title, Content

The most commonly used layout for standard presentation slides. It includes a title placeholder across the top and a single large content box below for bullet points, paragraphs, or media.

3. Title Only

Provides a title placeholder at the top of the slide while leaving the rest of the canvas completely blank for custom drawings, full-bleed images, or freeform text.

4. Blank Slide

Contains no predefined placeholders. This preset is ideal for custom designs, full-screen diagrams, or slides that do not follow standard text hierarchies.

5. Title, 2 Content

Features a title at the top with two equal, side-by-side content boxes. This layout is standard for comparisons, pros-and-cons lists, or pairing text with an image or chart.

6. Title, Content and 2 Content

Contains a top title, a large content block on one side, and two vertically stacked content blocks on the other side.

7. Title, 2 Content and Content

The mirror image of the previous layout, placing two stacked content boxes on the left and a single tall content box on the right beneath the title.

8. Title, 4 Content

Includes a title at the top and divides the main slide area into a 2x2 grid of four equal content placeholders. This preset works well for multi-item overviews or quad-chart analyses.

9. Title, 6 Content

Provides a top title and a 2x3 grid of six smaller content boxes, suitable for displaying multiple short points, icons, or small images.

10. Title, Content over Content

Places a title at the top, followed by two wide content boxes stacked horizontally on top of each other. This is useful for sequential steps or two-part comparisons across the width of the slide.

11. Centered Text

Positions a single text box directly in the center of the slide without a dedicated title bar. It is frequently used for section breaks, single impactful quotes, or transition slides.

12. Vertical Layout Options

Impress also includes vertical text variants (such as Vertical Title, Text, Chart or Vertical Title, Vertical Text), which orient text vertically for specific formatting requirements or languages that use top-to-bottom scripts.

Multi-Purpose Content Placeholders

In Impress, a generic “Content” box is dynamic. By default, it functions as an indented bulleted text area. However, each content box also contains quick-action icons that allow you to insert: * Tables * Charts * Images * Audio or Video files

Selecting any of these icons instantly replaces the text placeholder with the chosen media type while maintaining the layout’s pre-configured alignment and dimensions.
